Celebrating King Hussein’s Motorsport Legacy at the Royal Automobile Club of Jordan
In Amman, the Royal Automobile Club of Jordan is more than a venue—it is a living archive of the Kingdom’s automotive heritage. When entrusted with curating
artworks for this prestigious club, Jeedar sought to capture not just speed, but the spirit of a King who turned racing into a national symbol of pride.
The result is Speed & Spirit: King Hussein’s Rally Legacy—a collection of 10 bespoke artworks that honor His Majesty’s passion for motorsport and the enduring cultural
significance it holds in Jordan.
Motion, Power, and National Pride
The collection takes inspiration from King Hussein’s restless energy and his deep connection with racing. Through bold strokes, vivid contrasts, and dynamic
compositions, the artworks embody motion and adrenaline—mirroring the very essence of rally racing.
From the roar of engines in Aqaba to the legendary Rumman Hill Climb, each piece is a tribute to moments that shaped Jordan’s motorsport history. At its core, the
collection celebrates King Hussein not only as a leader but as a man who lived the thrill of competition and carried his nation’s pride on every track.
A Tribute to a Racing King
King Hussein’s love for racing was not just a pastime; it was part of his character. As Robert Keeley, a U.S. Political Officer in Amman (1958–1960), once observed:
“The King was restless by nature; he loved danger, dangerous sports—e.g., racing cars and motorcycles… He loved speed and therefore the races were never a contest.
He always won…”
This restless spirit is reflected in each artwork—capturing the energy of acceleration, the camaraderie of the Royal Rally Team, and the flag that waved as a symbol of
unity and resilience.
Art that Bridges Heritage and Emotion
Though limited to just 10 pieces, the collection carries weight beyond numbers. It is an artistic homage to Jordan’s motorsport heritage and to a King whose legacy
transcended politics to inspire pride and passion in his people. Displayed within the Royal Automobile Club, these artworks are more than decoration—they are living
reminders of a legacy where speed became spirit and competition became culture.
Why It Matters
Art is a vessel of memory. By reimagining King Hussein’s rally legacy in bold visual form, Jeedar helped the Royal Automobile Club preserve a story of national pride for
generations to come.
